The Barge Family have a long history in Côte-Rôtie, in fact since 1860 however it wasn't until 1929 that they bottled their first wine from their domaine in Ampuis. Domaine Gilles Barge produces wines from Cote Brune & Cote Blond in Côte-Rôtie as well as from Saint Joseph & Condrieu. They own the majority of these vines, which are well placed on the steep, rocky, terraced, hillside vineyards. Some are so steep that a pulley systems (known as a funicular) is used for grapes and equipment.
Gilles Côte-Rôtie’s exude floral and spicy complexity with a structure that is surrounded by ripe fleshy fruit with depth and round tannins. Given time, these features develop providing a wonderful perfume, velvety mouth-feel, layered earthy complexity and great persistence.
